Food COB Update

 Food COB Updates

Unfortunately I have found another bug with my COBs, specifically the Happy Pink Flower, Bliumea Plant, Rodirea Plant, and Mugug Fruit COBs. There was a bug that caused the wrong creature to sometimes be targeted by the script, so if one creature ate the fruit, another creature would receive the effects of it. My apologies once again for not noticing this bug right away. The updated COBs have been uploaded to Jessi's COBs. (You can also click this links in this post to download).

Many thanks to Jessica from Discover Albia for bringing this to my attention! She had mentioned that sometimes her third-party COBs would randomly inject norns with starch, etc. after I had mentioned seeing an increase in life force in Eliza, a norn who could not eat. I found the source eventually, which was the Parsnip carrot COB, which causes the creature currently selected by the player to receive the effects, instead of the norn who ate the object. After checking my own COBs, I found that my food COBs all contained the same mistake. So thank you Jessica, you were right!

Also speaking of Eliza, it seems that her genetics have failed her once again, in an even more upsetting way.

Eliza had eventually fallen asleep for the first time once her Sleepiness levels had increased to the maximum. Unfortunately, another side effect of her mutations seem to be that once asleep, Eliza can never wake up again. Her Sleepiness never decreases, and even if I forcefully bring down sleepiness levels with injections of Wake-up Pill, she refuses to stir.

Fortunately I have an export file of Eliza before she fell asleep, and Eliza-clone is now residing in my second world. Occasional injections keep her awake, though I'd hate to think of what staying awake constantly is doing to her natural instincts. A funny note, however, is that every time she turns around her sprite actually moves a few pixels to the right, and she is slowly making her way into the garden!

I am also now working on the companion COBs I had mentioned previously, to aid in the care of special-needs norns like Eliza in order to make their lives a bit more comfortable. If nothing else, she at least won't need to suffer extreme hunger and boredom constantly.

  1. Obviously annoying that you've needed to rejig your COBs, but fantastic that you found the issue with the parsnips! I've been having the same issues as Jessica and I'll be very happy to have that problem removed :D

  2. It is a bit of a pain, mostly because people will have to re-download them, which I feel terrible about. It was actually a very silly mistake to make, so I do feel a bit silly about that! However, I am happy to have found the problem, as I may not have noticed it within other COBs otherwise, and my norns would continue to starve to death slowly.

The problem also exists in all of Muppetboy's carrot COBs, at least the versions downloaded from CreaturesCaves. I was thinking of uploading a fix for them, as they are really lovely COBs otherwise. Although I'm not sure if Muppetboy is still around or active?

    1. Oh dear, which carrot COBs are Muppetboys? I'm pretty sure I'll have at least one of them. From memory there's the honey carrots that grow under the hives, and the dark cave carrots that grown near the submarine. Are both of these Muppetboys?

    2. The four carrot COBs are the Hunny Carrot Patch, the Darkling Cave Carrots, the Muddy Swamp Carrots, and the Parsnips. I found the same issue in all four of them (downloaded from CreaturesCaves). The good news is that it is *very* easy to fix, but I don't want to upload anything without permission.

  3. Hurray for unraveling the most baffling mystery! I really had a feeling that it was a COB that was creating the glitch, because I never ran into the issue when I played long ago. It might be annoying to have to re-inject the COBs, but the important thing is that you found it and fixed it!

I haven't seen Muppetboy around for some time. I know an update would be very useful, but I don't know how much creators like having their original creations altered. Perhaps wait a bit to see if you can get in touch with him? Or, just continue to make your own food COBs as alternatives. They're pretty awesome!

Poor Eliza. At least her exported clone is kind of moving around, thanks to the poses! I'll be interested to see the companion COBs you're working on.

I'm still way too excited that you figured out what was causing the starch glitch. Now I won't have to sit here and wonder when it will pop up again!

    1. I'm glad I could do something to help out, haha. (Even if it was from writing buggy code. Sigh.) It's a learning experience!

That's probably a good idea; editing/re-hosting someone else's COB is a bit disrespectful I think. I'll work on some food alternatives that are easily accessible by norns in those areas :)

    2. Well you've already shown some skill in both coding and graphics. There's plenty of good COBs out there but...well I'm a 3D artist, I like things that are perty :D
I'd definitely use any additional food/herb COBs you make.

    3. Aw, thanks for the support ArchDragon! I'll try my best to make sure my COBs are purty, too XD

  4. Could you post a tutorial for people to fix the cob themselves? Who knows, it might get more people interested in C1 CAOS! :)
